Split screen gaming? Why don't they bring it back?

These days we all see ourselves playing online multiplayer games but long long ago or should I say not too long ago there used to be split screen games and that's where all the fun was at, a whole family sitting in front of one screen enjoying a 1vs1 or 2vs2 game. What's up with that and the console market?

Most people find it easier to just connect with friends through internet. However, I think that split screen gaming is still a good thing for being more social, more with people, with your loved ones... But you get a much better gaming experience from online gaming, or from playing not on splitscreen. There are still some games that support local multiplayer, by that you and your friends have to be connected to the same network and by that you have to be in the same house.

Isn't Nintendo Switch a handheld console? How would it work for split screen multiplayer? Oh I suppose LAN multiplayer, I will need to look into that, should be lots of fun.

The switch comes with a dock that has an HDMI out, and the controllers  detach and are wireless so that you can play the Switch on TV.
