Here's why you shouldn't use these services for whatever tf you're doing.
Discord is shit
1. Does not delete your data even if you delete your account
2. Stores messages without any type of encryption
3. Constantly saves information about you to great detail, going as far as to track your CPU usage
4. Forced to comply with authorities because it's an American company
5. Requires you to use a phone number unless you have a low profile res proxy
Telegram is shit
1. Has a shitty hand made protocol that uses (probably backdoored) custom made encryption
2. Might or might not delete your data depending on who you ask
3. Rooms aren't e2e encrypted by default
4. Completely closed source. Fuck knows what they're doing with your data
5. Requires you to use a phone number
6. Telegram gives user data to the Federal Criminal Police Office
7. They have been caught fucking lying
^
"Even if the company claims the opposite: According to SPIEGEL information, Telegram gave user data to the BKA. The government sees this as a success, but Telegram continues to disregard German regulations."
What to use then?
I had this question on my mind too recently and Signal seemed like the best possible alternative, until I found out about Matrix
Here's some good things about it:
1. Only requires you to have an email account.
2. All rooms are end to end encrypted by default
3. Everything is open source. From clients to servers. If you don't trust the public ones, you can just set up your own.
4. Enough clients to fit everyone's needs. From web, to desktop, to mobile, to an actual implementation for Nintendo 3DS.
Stay safe and feel free to add me on @monikr:matrix.org
