The Minsk Regional Prosecutor's Office supported the state prosecution in court in a criminal case against a 28-year-old resident of Borisov, who is accused of assisting extremist activity.
During the trial, it was established that the accused, knowing about the activities of the extremist group "Cyber-Partisans", on January 18, 2023, sent a program he had developed to the Telegram chatbot, which allowed encrypting files on the user's computer. Thus, the program blocked access to the user's encrypted information.
He also developed and on January 28, 2023, sent instructions to the Telegram chatbot of the extremist group "Cyber-Partisans" to activate the program, which was a set of drivers for developing software for filtering the file system.
At the court hearing, the young man admitted his guilt in full.
Taking into account the evidence presented by the state prosecutor, the Minsk Regional Court issued a guilty verdict. On the basis of Parts 1 and 2 of Article 361-4 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, the accused was sentenced to restriction of liberty with referral to an open-type correctional facility for a period of 4 years and 6 months.
In accordance with Part 1 of Article 46-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, the laptop used by the accused in committing the crimes was subject to special confiscation.
