Saudi officials have called for the arrest of a domestic rapper after she released a video for the song "Girl from Mecca" in which she calls women from this holy city
"powerful and beautiful."
The move has sparked anger from social media users, who have been called hypocritical by Saudi authorities, the BBC reports.
The video of young rap artist Asahel Slay was released on the platform Jutjub last week. She talks about the women of Mecca , which for the Islamic faith is one of the holiest cities in which they go to Hajiluk or pilgrimage once a year.
Our respect for all the other girls, but the girl from Mecca is as sweet as sugar - is one of the lyrics to this song.
Because of this, Mecca Governor Kaled al Faisal on Thursday ordered the arrest of everyone behind this video and added that the song "offends the customs in Mecca". Assaela Slay's account on YouTube has been suspended and the video is no longer available for viewing. However, other channels can still be found, albeit of inferior quality.
