Florida hospital system suffers data breach

Broward Health Hospital System said hackers gained access to its network on Oct. 15 through a third-party medical provider. The hacker accessed names, birthdays, addresses, banking information, social security numbers, drivers’ license numbers, patient histories and treatment and diagnosis records. There is no evidence the information was actually misused, the hospital system said in a statement. The DOJ asked the hospital not to make the data breach public right away to ensure that the notification does not compromise the ongoing law enforcement investigation.
