Considering my current financial situation, I'm pretty close to using something like that, but I'm way too worried about problems with the law.

I think it can be a better idea for you to contact a company and get a loan. There are many reliable ones like https://ampadvance.com, and I'm sure that it won't be hard for you to get the best financial solution for your startup, just don't get into some unreliable activities like this one because you might actually have problems with the law.
