 Houthi attacks upend trade as ships are forced long way around Africa

The majority of the significant vessels, responsible for transporting approximately 12 percent of global trade through the Suez Canal, have altered their routes. They are opting for the longer journey around southern Africa due to the obstruction caused by attacks from Iranian-aligned Houthi militants in Yemen. These attacks, a response to Israel's conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, have effectively disrupted the sole southern approach to the world's busiest maritime shortcut.
