The tool, initially developed for legitimate purposes, includes several useful modules for information gathering, automated pentesting, among other tasks. OpenBullet has a strong resemblance to BlackBullet, another hacking tool, although unlike BlackBullet, it is possible to modify OpenBullet's settings to the user's preference.
Regarding its increased usage, OpenBullet has made a name for itself in the cybercrime community thanks to its constant maintenance and reduced use of the graphics processing unit (GPU) on the target system, making it a very quiet tool.
However, software reverse engineering experts believe that hackers prefer OpenBullet because of its open source nature, which allows customizing the methods employed by the tool in each attack, depending on the skills of the threat actors.
On hacking forums it is even possible to find tutorials on the use of the tool, adding hundreds of possible configurations for sale. A group of OpenBullet operators even have an online store to offer their services.
OpenBullet's official page on GitHub specifies that the tool should not be used for attacks on third-party sites, although in reality there is no way to prevent this software from being used for malicious purposes.
