India reports 58,097 new Covid cases and 534 deaths; Omicron tally at 2,153

There are 2,135 Omicron cases in India with 23 states reporting the new Covid-19 strain. Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected state with 653 cases followed by Delhi, which has 464 infections. The death toll climbed to 4,82,551 with 534 fresh fatalities according to the data updated at 9am. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.18% and the weekly positivity rates were 2.60%. The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the vaccination drive has exceeded 147.72 crore.
