Irish police have dismantled the largest online marketplace for illegal goods, marking a significant victory in the fight against cybercrime. In a high-stakes operation in northern County Dublin, armed police units, backed by specialists from the National Bureau for Combating Cybercrime, raided a residence, seizing approximately €6.5 million worth of cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Monero.
The raid also uncovered luxury items such as high-end watches valued at over €120,000 and two luxury cars worth a combined €220,000. Three individuals were arrested: two men, aged 23 and 49, and a 32-year-old woman. The men are suspected of assisting a criminal organization, while the woman faces charges related to money laundering and terrorist financing.
While the 49-year-old man and the woman have been released on bail pending a court appearance in October, 23-year-old Kevin Daniel Andrew remains in custody. Authorities believe he is the administrator of the notorious Bohemia Market, the darknet marketplace at the center of this investigation.
Detective Michael Mullen, who spearheaded the operation, emphasized that the successful takedown of the market underscores Ireland's commitment to cutting off criminal profits at their source. With the Bohemia Market now officially shut down, law enforcement has delivered a powerful blow to the dark web's illegal trade.
