Law enforcement officers carried out operations to combat cybercrime - 25 participants were notified of suspicion
Under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office, together with the State Security Service of Ukraine, territorial units of the National Police of Ukraine, the SBU Cybersecurity Department and territorial units of the Cyber Police Department, operations were conducted to combat crime in cyberspace in seven regions.
As a result of the investigative actions, 25 individuals were notified of suspicion. They organized the activities of fraudulent call centers. The victims, mainly elderly citizens, paid them for the alleged purchase of household goods.
The members of the criminal organization used phishing sites and then transferred the funds stolen from citizens to crypto wallets under their control. They unauthorizedly interfered with the accounts of remote bank account management systems, reissuing citizens' SIM cards and using them as financial numbers to log into the accounts of the victims.
The suspects called citizens on behalf of the bank's security service employees, learned confidential information, gained access to account management and withdrew funds from the victims to their accounts. In total, the amount of losses to citizens is more than UAH 5 million.
Law enforcement officers conducted 50 searches in Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhia, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, Khmelnytskyi regions and in Kiev. They seized 139 computers, 56 mobile phones, 45 bank cards "drops", 26 SIM cards, more than 38 starter packages of mobile operators, draft records.
The suspects are charged with participation in a criminal organization, fraud, theft, as well as unauthorized interference in the operation of information systems and unauthorized sale or distribution of information with limited access, which is stored in electronic computers, automated systems, computer networks or on media of such information (Article 255, Article 190, 185, 361, Article 361-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The issue of choosing preventive measures for them and seizing property is currently being decided.
