Need tips on setting up a new business website.

I will be hosting a website for my clothing business. I used wordpress before, but I want to create my own. I'm a Computer Science graduate, so I know how to code. I'm going to use VueJS and Laravel since I've learned it from college. I'm just bothered by the security of the website that I will be making. What's the best way to secure a website? 

I'm using Digital Ocean VPS running an Ubuntu Server. I use nginx, php-fpm and MySQL. my VPS is on 1GB ram so I'm not sure if I should install a cPanel.

Thanks bro! I'm a complete beginner because I just graduated last year. I tried woocommerce before but I want a more challenging task, my colleagues are bashing me for using wordpress and woocommerce before that's why I want to prove that I can build from scratch. i will look into XSS, thanks.
