Operating System: Alpine Linux

An independently developed, free and general-purpose Linux distribution designed for power users who value security, simplicity and efficient use of system resources. The development of Alpine Linux is based on the C library musl and BusyBox, which is typically used in embedded systems. This makes the distribution very resource-efficient in every respect, while still being a full-featured and powerful operating system with a wide range of application programs.

Alpine Linux uses its own package manager apk, as init system OpenRC and a scripted installation. This creates a simple, elementary Linux environment that performs its services almost imperceptibly in the background. On this basis, the packages can be added that are needed for the particular type of use. Whether it be a private video recorder, a controller for an iSCSI storage, a lightweight mail server or an embedded switch. The distribution was developed primarily with system security in mind. All user binaries are compiled as Position Independent Executables (PIE) with stack smashing protection. These proactive security features prevent the exploitation of entire classes of zero day and other vulnerabilities.
