In Krasnodar, officers of the Bureau of Special Technical Measures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, together with operatives of the Criminal Investigation Department of the regional police headquarters, during operational support of a criminal case initiated under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, identified and eliminated a so-called communication hub that was remotely used by fraudsters from abroad to replace their phone numbers during mass calls to residents of different regions of Russia in order to steal money from them.
As the police established, a 41-year-old visitor from the Ulyanovsk region, on the instructions of curators from neighboring countries, rented an apartment in Krasnodar, where he installed special equipment. The man received messages from accomplices via messenger, according to which he rearranged SIM cards in two administered SIM boxes for the scammers.
The operatives detained the accomplice of the fraudsters and conducted a search of the residential premises he rented, from where they seized the above-mentioned equipment, as well as two laptops, mobile phones and more than a thousand SIM cards from various mobile operators. Expertise and research have been ordered.
Currently, a range of operational and investigative measures and actions are being carried out aimed at identifying and documenting all the facts of the illegal activity of the detained offender, as well as identifying and capturing his accomplices.
