Police stopped the activity of hackers who issued loans to citizens through hacked accounts on the State Services portal
Employees of the Department for Combating Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region detained two young men who are suspected of illegal access to computer information.
“According to available information, the perpetrators purchased inactive SIM cards from various telecom operators. Using special programs, subscriber numbers were checked for previously registered accounts on the Gosuslugi platform. The accomplices gained access to personal data of citizens and issued loans using them, after which they transferred the received funds to the accounts of intermediaries - the so-called “drops”.
The investigator of the Investigative Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Gatchina District of the Leningrad Region opened criminal cases on the grounds of a crime under Article 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation,” said the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.
During searches at the addresses of residence of the detainees, mobile phones, bank and SIM cards, as well as other items of evidentiary value were seized. In addition, a database containing information about citizens whose accounts were compromised was discovered.
“A preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave and proper behavior was chosen for two defendants. The preliminary investigation is ongoing,” added Irina Volk.
