I've been programming for some time now and have a good understanding of both Java and python (also know webdev basics but that's not programming). My latest project was a JavaFX application with over 4k lines of code (I know quantity itself doesn't mean anything but just to give you an idea of where I'm at) and I really don't know where to go from here. Each time I try to start a new project I question whether its a waste of time and if my time would be better spent learning some new language/library. What should I be doing to improve as hobbyist programmer that wants to get a job in software development after uni? I'm not necessarily looking for the best way to improve my employ-ability but rather something that will feel meaningful and will deepen my understanding of Programming/CS concepts. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
