Quantum Computing: Researchers Achieve 100 Million Quantum Operations

Researchers have achieved a new record in maintaining quantum bits (qubits) in a coherent quantum quantum quantum state for more than five seconds. The new research brings quantum computing coherency to human-perceivable scales of time. Using a technique they've termed "single shot readout," the researchers used precise laser pulses to add single electrons to qubits. The addition of single electrons is akin to pressing the reset button on your PC, but for quantum states. The idea is to bridge the quantum and electron realms: the researchers took advantage of the inherent capabilities of silicon carbide.
