According to my experience, the wallet.dat file can only be corrupted only if file extensions were compromised, another reason could be when file copied, it was not full copied.. in between the file copy would have stopped and then the rest file there is actually not able to unfold itself properly as it is not fully copied from the original source.

Still if you think the file is not readable, check file is bitcoin core qt or any other stand alone btc wallet installed on pc.
