Which strategy games have good mechanics for vassals?

A lot of games give you the option to make defeated enemies your vassals, but most of the time it's not very rewarding because you don't get much out of it. In my experience some Paradox games did OK on that, like EU4 and some of the HOI series. Stellaris somewhat too.

Vassals in a lot of games don’t really seem worth it sometimes. Paradox games like EU4 and HOI do a decent job with it, giving you more to work with. Stellaris has its moments too, but it can be hit or miss. It’s always cool when games make having vassals actually feel rewarding!
