Though if you want to be most safe, you should use an RDP or proxy connections, but a vpn SHOULD be fine though I can't promise anything. I use Mullvad, it's cheap and simple. Really like it.

rdp or proxy connections? proxies are more confusing to me i think i'd rather an rdp, have you used an rdp before? i don't know which to use, i will be sticking with just a vpn for now but i'm interested for future reference

I used jink.host for https://jink.host/ RDP and now as web hosting. They are good, and have good plans.

i don't see any rdp labels on the site, i'm seeing vps, are they interchangable? i thought they were different, are these rdps?

The terms RDP/VPS are used interchangeably. RDP refers to the protocol (Remote Desktop Protocol), while VPS refers to the type of service provided (Virtual Private Server). Technically, RDP is a Microsoft technology and mostly used for Windows servers.

Reading through the thread, @syfex has given good advise. Mullvad is a solid VPN provider. I wouldn't recommend NordVPN unless you have a dual VPN setup using VM's (examples here, and here). You can check out https://offshore.cat for a list of recommended VPS and VPN providers.

Ideally you want multiple layers of security to hide your origin IP address. For example: VPN -> VPS -> Proxy -> Target Site.

The higher the risk of your activity, the more layers you want between yourself and your target.

For VPNs use something like Express or Mullvad ( I use Mullvad )

RDP is needed at all points depending on the occasion ( exploit scanning, checkers, crackers etc )
