This method does indeed still work. (look at the proof)

When trying to SE the Death Star does it work? No! 
That's why I recommend choosing a cheap set so they won't question anything. They do ask to ship back the faulty bricks to their engineers, and will provide you with a label.
Just wait until you received your new set, or send a box with a peanut butter jar to them and keep bugging them with your track and trace code and ask for a replacement set, or just don't send anything to them at all!
Not hard at all, use your brains!
