What is something you learned very late in life, but wish you knew much earlier?

Contentment

I am in my mid 40s and I was basically at the same point you were at when I was in my 20s, despite doing what I want/ things that I like, I realized that I lacked contentment and that content wasn't purchasable, many years later I arrived at the conclusion that would fill the void in my life and lack of content which was Religion. Ever since then I stopped worrying about the direction that my life is heading in or whether or not It was being wasted.

That everything in life is a choice.
i.e: Being the best and most extraordinary student is very attainable, it's an active choice to be the best and study the hardest.

For most my life, I thought that I just "wasn't a maths person" and that "I'm not smart enough for xyz".
But then somewhere along the way I realized that being great at something is a choice, you yourself choose how you want to allocate time and training.
Once I finally figured this out, it was as if all the things that I previously had thought to be magic, turned out to be very achievable.
