There have been several community ran servers. As for an official server there was once one long ago, however we at this time have no plans of releasing an official server.

There already was one long ago, but it was short lived. There is/was a badge for those who were a part of it. 

Pretty much sums it up though, it's pointless for there to be an official server as it would only be termed over and over.
