Biden orders nearly 3,000 U.S. troops to Eastern Europe to counter Russia

U.S. will send nearly 3,000 extra troops to Poland and Romania to shield Eastern Europe from a potential spillover from the crisis over the massing of Russian troops near Ukraine's borders. Russia has denied plans to invade Ukraine but signalled it was in no mood for compromise on Wednesday. Moscow's Foreign Ministry mocks Britain, calling Prime Minister Boris Johnson "utterly confused" and accuses British politicians of "stupidity and ignorance" Moscow says it could take unspecified military measures if its demands are not met, including a promise by NATO never to admit Kyiv. Washington has said it will not send troops to Ukraine to protect itself from aggression.

That's fuck all soldiers and based on the attitude and general look of the US military these days barely an additional threat to Russia. 
I think this is more a move to prevent conflict as US troops on the ground makes it hard for Russia to invade without engagements with US soldiers and as a result possible US casualties, This of course would lead to all out war with the united states which Russia does not want.
