Do I really deserve this negative rep?

Yesterday, a guy asked me for help with cracking, and I conversed with him to assist as much as I could. However, in return, I received my first negative reputation. I don't hold a grudge against him, and I won't try to reverse that negative reputation. I was so close to Godlike. I'm ashamed of myself.
