linkedIn doesn't mean shit if you suck at your job or don't interview well.  Recruiters use linkedIn, but the people doing the hiring are looking for someone who is competent and communicates effectively. High praise from somebody at the company you've already worked with will almost always trump somebody that has a fluffed up linkedIn profile.

Find something you enjoy doing and pour yourself into it, become the person people come to when they need help or advice, and most importantly don't be a dick.  When your boss or an executive move to another company, you want them to say "for xyz role, we really need this guy."
