Kash Patel, Donald Trump’s nominee to be the next FBI director, has been targeted by hackers believed to be from Iran. According to sources, the hackers were able to access some of his communications. Trump spokesman Alex Pfeiffer declined to comment on the incident, but stressed that Patel was a key figure in the fight against the Iranian regime during Trump’s first term and will continue to work to protect America if he is appointed FBI director.
Members of Trump’s team have been targeted by foreign hackers in recent years. For example, last month the FBI notified Todd Blanche, a lawyer nominated for deputy attorney general, that his phone had been tapped by Chinese hackers. It was also revealed that Lindsay Halligan, another Trump lawyer, was a victim of an Iranian hacking group.
In addition, Donald Trump Jr. said that the FBI had notified him that he was a top target of Iran. Iranian hackers have repeatedly targeted members of the first Trump administration and used stolen data to attempt to interfere in the 2020 election.
Iranian hackers have been actively using compromised accounts to target politicians and high-profile U.S. figures, confirming a trend toward digital interference in election processes.
