I believe that you should limit the possibility of sending messages for users who have not exceeded a given posts requirement , e.g. if a user does not have at least 15 posts , he should not be able to send messages . messaging system is very often used for spamming and scamming.

it could cause issues with customers wanting to contact sellers if they have issues and if the seller does not have any other way of communication
I could see how getting spammed by random new users might be annoying, but removing it for new users might cause a lot of issues
