It's come to everyone's attention (especially @KSZ) that the site is growing while the staff team is not. This is obviously a problem. There's too much shit going on and not enough people to handle it. So, obviously there are 3 new t-mods coming soon, but this isn't going to be enough to get everything in ship-shape. The answer is not throwing more temp staff at the problem indiscriminately and hoping the issue solves itself. There needs to be a careful, specific, directed effort that follows clear attack vectors to sufficiently address any issue. This issue is no exception.
As such, my proposition is a multi-faceted approach as follows:
1. Timezones/Activity
Be aware of timezone differentials on the staff and either require activity during certain periods to reduce or eliminate gaps OR include timezone/activity peak in staff screening for new hires.
2. Sectional Moderation
If one person or a very small group is responsible for one section or area of the site they will be much more effective. This will also expand the acceptable user pool for potential trial moderators.
3. Shoutbox Mods
This is so desperately needed. All day long at all hours of the day I see blatant rule-breaking and repeated calls for staff assistance only to be by crickets while the ENTIRE STAFF IS ONLINE. Shoutbox quality will improve drastically, which will encourage more participation as the site's userbase grows. It will also act as it's own screening tool for potential trial moderators or sectional moderators.
Consequently, there will need to be more granular staff positioning and a redefined hierarchy. For example: Owner > Admins > Global Mods > Sectional Mods > Trial Mods > Shoutbox Mods.
4. Suggestions
The users are doing a percentage of the work for you and it seems like many reasonable suggestions never see the light of implementation due to what I can only assume is stubbornness or laziness.
Thanks for your time.
