After the recent events from the arrest of Durov and Telegram obliging with providing user data to authorities, which do you think is the next messaging app that will get adopted widely in the place of Telegram?

Imo either Signal or Simplex, personally I really enjoy Simplex and the benefit of that you are not required to share a phone number to register.

If you haven't followed the recent news, now would be the best time to catch up,

You need to do something really crazy for Telegram to give away your info, what already happened before. If you are so scared about that, just use a temp phone and vpn.

You might think that, but we are not talking about doxing yourself, but rather that Telegram is now obliged to provide your IP address and phone number associated with your account.

Telegram was never anonymous to begin with.

Signal has published multiple subpoenas to which they should oblige and provide all the information they've got to the LE and the only information they keep about you is the last active time stamp. Additionally Signal provides real end-to-end encryption on all forms of communication, unlike Telegram, where it only works for secret chats.
