https://www.startpage.com/ Obtains Google search results while protecting users' privacy. Based in the Netherlands. Launched in 1998.

https://duckduckgo.com/ Some of DuckDuckGo's code is free software, but the core is proprietary. Launched in 2008. Based in US.

https://metager.org/ Link: MetaGer on GitLab. Based in Germany. Launched in 1996.

If you are looking for privacy, Startpage and Duckduckgo are both a no no. While Startpage relies on Google for search results, DuckDuckGo relies on Microsoft for both search results and ads.
