C is a bad choice for a first programming language as it is too complex for beginners maybe java as it is a step down i guess or maybe python if you are a complete beginner.

Personally the way i would learn them are.

1) Python
2) Java
3) C
4) C+ or C# or C++
5) Ruby or any other language
