If you need more states or just 1 , follow these instructions (in this case no need for the free method update):

1. Run regedit (Windows Key + R, then "regedit.exe")

If you use a 64-bit version of the Windows operating system, use Step 2a. If you use a 32-bit version of Windows, use Step 2b. If you are unsure which version of Windows you have, press Windows Key + R and type in "control /name Microsoft.System" into the "Run" pop-up window. The "System type" entry listed on the new pop-up window will tell you which version of Windows you have.

2a. For 64-bit Windows only: In left pane, go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Wow6432Node > Intuit > TY22 > PERSTATES
2b. For 32-bit Windows only: In left pane, go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Intuit > TY22 > PERSTATES

3. If PERSTATES does not exist, right-click TY22 and select New > Key and enter "PERSTATES" as the name
4. Open PERSTATES, then right-click in the right pane and select New > String value
5. For the name, enter "w$$iperStateIS" where $$ is the two letter abbreviation of the state you desire (ex: the abbreviation for New York is ny so you would enter "wnyiperStateIS" as the name)
6. Double left-click the entry you just created and set its value to 1
7. Repeat the process for any additional states you desire
8. Run TT, allow it to update, and it should download the files for the state(s) (note: these are downloaded into the "Forms" subdirectory of the TT install directory); all downloaded states will be available as options in TT when you go to the State portion of a tax return

ENJOY and thanks for the upload !

Credits go to Laupetre.

Since TT23 is a 64bit version, look for Intuit in the registry. In left pane, go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Intuit > TY23

From here, follow Step #3 onward of the post quoted here.

this works thank you

I was glad to share the link to the software this year.  If you update the software, make sure to re-do the tweaks from the first page. They should work. Once you are in, one does not have to sign up to "Stay up-to-date with the Latest from TurboTax". Just go to File and select whatever it is that you want to do. Picture

I can't recall where was you can enter the number of states instead of name one of state only.  Could you mind to point it out please?

Here's my first crack at it with the instructions above. I have NOT done the state crack yet though --> https://multiup.io/b9841e76d35f394926513fb285529fc4

Many thanks. Presumably, each update would also update these dll files. Would that mean we should use dnSpy ourselves every single time instead of relying on old DLLs? I don't mind even if tedious.

#1725, great post.

Works like a charm again following the instruction carefully.

One thing needs to be mentioned, for 2nd state download, always add following safe regedit method before change the code.

2a. For 64-bit Windows only: In left pane, go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Wow6432Node > Intuit > TY23> PERSTATES
2b. For 32-bit Windows only: In left pane, go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Intuit > TY23 > PERSTATES

3. If PERSTATES does not exist, right-click TY23 and select New > Key and enter "PERSTATES" as the name

I can definitely download the states thru the registry hack, but somehow when I performed the other hacks, none of them seems to work. I tried the following:
(1) Update for unlimited free states (if income is listed in the return) Note: Only works when "click to see amount" shows in the program. (After performing this hack, my "click to see amounts" is no longer clickable.
(2) Update for FREE UNLIMITED STATE FILING: ONLY DO THIS ONCE YOU ARE DONE WITH ALL STATE AND FEDERAL RETURNS AND ARE READY TO FILE!!!

Have yet to try, but I doubt it would work.
Update if you receive state screen asking for $40-$45 Payment: ONLY DO THIS IF YOU HAVE USED YOUR FIRST STATE AND ARE TRYING TO GET A SECOND AND GET A SCREEN ASKING FOR $$

Is it possible to just remove the sign-in screen upon clicking to see state amount? Thanks

Those of you who are wondering about the Sign In for the State download

Whatever State that you want to download, just use the Registry Method.

2a. For 64-bit Windows only: In left pane, go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Intuit > TY23 > PERSTATES
2b. For 32-bit Windows only: In left pane, go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Intuit > TY23 > PERSTATES

3. If PERSTATES does not exist, right-click TY23 and select New > Key and enter "PERSTATES" as the name

Doing this way will not come back with a Sign in dialogue box when you get to the State, since you already downloaded the State side of the files.

After you complete the registry entries for however many States as you want, open TT2023. It'll look for product updates and download and update the State files. Believe me, once you have done this, it won't ask you to SIGN IN at the State section.
